Technology state management information solution based on PDM system

technology state management is an engineering management science developed in the United States with the development of complex system engineering in the 1950s. The purpose of technical status management is to enable the manufacturer to develop and produce weapons and equipment that meet the use requirements with the best performance, the best cost-effectiveness ratio and the shortest cycle, and to provide a complete set of technical data. For equipment products with complex functions and structures, technical status management plays a particularly important role in improving product quality, shortening the development cycle, and reducing costs and risks. In recent years, with the increase of the complexity of equipment products, the contraction of the development cycle, the increase of the production quantity of products, the traditional technical state management method is difficult to effectively manage the technical state, and there are problems such as incomplete technical state control, untimely information transmission, and a lot of time to unify the technical state in the summary of the development stage. Through the introduction or development of PDM systems, many enterprises implement information-based technical state management of products, thus realizing the effective control of complex product design and change in different stages and different states

1 technical status management

the proposal of technical status management began with the regulations on the quality management of military products. This management method was first successfully applied to Boeing's 747 aircraft project, and different types of derivatives were developed in a short time to meet the different needs of customers. The U.S. Department of defense summarized and improved them, and compiled mil-hdbk-61a (Technical Status Management Guide) to guide the equipment development of large weapons

the main tasks of technology status management are: technology status identification, technology status control, technology status documentary, technology status audit

configuration identification is the activity of assigning identification or coding to technical status items and corresponding files. This activity includes determining the product structure, selecting the technical status items, establishing the technical status baseline, and determining the identification number of the corresponding technical status document for each technical status item

configuration control is the core of technical state management. Technical state control refers to the demonstration, evaluation, coordination, approval and implementation of proposed change suggestions (engineering changes, deviations, out of tolerance) to control the changes of technical state items after the establishment of technical state baseline

configuration status accounting includes recording, reporting and analysis. In general, the technical status items, technical status baseline, engineering changes, deviations, out of tolerance and their corresponding contents shall be recorded

configuration audit includes functional technical state audit and physical technical state audit. Functional technical state audit tests whether the functional performance of the product meets the requirements; When reviewing the physical and technical status, check whether the physical product is completely consistent with the drawing

2 PDM technology and its application system

pdm can be defined as a technology that takes software technology as the foundation and products as the core to realize the integrated management of product related data, processes and resources. It can provide information management of product life cycle, and can establish a parallel collaborative environment for product design and manufacturing in the enterprise

at present, there are many commercial PDM software on the market. Taking Windchill data management software of PTC company as an example, combined with my experience in the implementation of PDM system, this paper expounds the practice of PDM system in technical state management

Windchill is an enterprise level data management system. Its three-tier system structure application based on Web combines the ability of the server with the convenience and efficiency of Internet to construct a distributed collaborative product design platform. At the same time, using J2EE technology, the system can be applied to unused platforms, and has better development and dynamic update function. Its architecture is shown in Figure 1

the client layer is based on a web browser. Users can log in to the system independently using a web browser, or use CAD design tools, such as pro/engineer. The service layer is composed of third-party software and PTC specific components. Third party software includes Java SDK, servlet engine, web server and search engine. The components developed by PTC include two solution modules pdmlink and projectlink. The database layer includes an LDAP server that manages user information, an external electronic warehouse that manages electronic files, and an Oracle or SQL Server database that acts as a repository for metadata and content data files

3.1 the application management of Windchill system in technical state identification

technical state identification is the basis of technical state management. It starts from the scheme exploration stage of weapon equipment development and runs through the whole process of development. The basic requirement is that the technical status items and documents must have a unified number and version

the numbering rules of various product data objects are formulated by the standardization department, filled in by the corresponding authorized users when creating objects or automatically generated by the system according to the numbering rules. Users can identify the object type through numbering in the system

in Windchill system, version is used to identify the changes of parts, documents and other objects, so as to control the effectiveness and track the change history. The version consists of a large version number (letter identification, such as a, b) and a small version (number identification, such as 1, 2). Windchill will automatically update the minor version number in the case of document check-in/check-out, for example, a.1 becomes A.2; The change of the large version, such as a changing to B, is the revision operation of recording the signed data. Windchill system will automatically save all historical versions to facilitate users to trace the historical documents

3.2 Windchill system realizes technical state control

technical state change is the core of technical state control. In previous engineering changes, due to manual processing, there are often problems such as non-standard process, low control efficiency, non sharing of information, and difficulty in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data; Especially in the face of the current increasingly complex product structure and tight development cycle, relying on manual processing of multiple versions of complex products is not easy to be accurate. In the face of a large number of technical notices, the zero check and the complete set of baseline documents are inefficient. Therefore, we must adopt information-based means to strengthen the control of technical status

Windchill system adopts the closed-loop change management concept based on cmii, and applies four change objects to realize the closed-loop control of technical document change, so as to ensure the traceability and statistics of changes

1) PR: problem report. Problem report is a record of problems found or improvement suggestions put forward by units at each stage of the product life cycle. 3. Maximum experimental force (KN): 600, 1000, 2000, 3000. It can also be used to record on-site problems and initiate engineering changes

2) ECR: engineering change request. After the investigation of PR, the specific change request for product problems can be made. A change request can not be reported for any problem, or it can be reported for one or more problems. A change request can be specifically realized by one or more change orders

3) ECN: engineering change notice. After research, for the specific change measures proposed by ECR, the change notice is the authorization basis for organizing and implementing relevant changes. Through the change implementation scheme in the change order, multiple related change tasks can be organized together

4) engineering change activity: the change task specifies who will execute what task before when and who will review it. Each task can modify specific data. At this time, the data before and after the change can be associated with the change task. A change notice can be broken down into multiple change tasks and handed over to different people for execution

problem report, change request, change order and change task are a closed-loop control process. The designer first creates a problem report in the PDM system to record the problems found in the design and production. When the problems accumulate to a certain extent, the designer creates a change request, explains the design change to be initiated, applies for the change, and starts the signing and approval process of the change request. After the request is approved, the system automatically creates a change notice to publish the changed design data. After the change notice is issued successfully, the system automatically updates the status of the problem report to deal with the problem that does not return to zero

3.3 Windchill system realizes the recording and review of technical status

the recording of technical status is the formal record and report of the established technical status documents, the established change status and the implementation status of the approved changes. In the Windchill system, the version management, signing and approval, change management, report statistics, data distribution, beam deviation processing that should be replaced in time and so on of parts, 3D digital simulation and documents all involve the recording of technical status. The system ensures the statistics and traceability of technical status through the correlation of product data and information

technical status audit is a relatively complex process, and the information system can only provide a certain basis for the audit (such as quality review report, design documents required for the audit, etc.), and partially implement the audit results as changes in product data in the system, while the real audit process needs to be completed by people outside the system, such as transition review meeting, project acceptance, etc

4 Summary

the rapid development of information technology has been widely used in various fields. With the increasing complexity of equipment development engineering projects, the difficulty of technical state management has increased, and the requirements of informatization have become increasingly urgent. Through the above analysis, after continuous improvement, PDM system has been able to meet the requirements of technical state management, improve the technical management level and efficiency of equipment development, promote the development of model development, and provide technical support means for accelerating model development and batch production
